(CBS/AP) TORONTO - Canadian police are investigating whether what appears to be a human head found in a Montreal park on Sunday is the missing head of Chinese student Jun Lin, who was allegedly dismembered by porn actor Luka Magnotta, an official said Sunday.

A police official told The Associated Press that an item recovered from a Montreal park appeared to be a human head. The official spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak about the details.

Magnotta, 29, is accused of dismembering his former lover Lin, 33, and mailing the body parts to political parties and schools. He pleaded not guilty last month.

Montreal police spokesperson Anie Lemieux said the major crimes unit received a tip Sunday afternoon and investigators made their way to Park Angrignon, located a few miles south of Magnotta's apartment. Lemieux said it will take a few days for tests results to confirm whether what was found is indeed Lin's head.

Magnotta was caught last month as he read stories about himself at an Internet café in Berlin. He did not contest his extradition from Germany and arrived in Montreal last month on a Canadian military plane.

Lin's family arrived in Montreal last month and attended a memorial service last week. Lin studied computer science student at Montreal's Concordia University.
