World Cup 2010 Golden Awards

Diego Forlan - Adidas Golden Ball

"It is as amazing as it is unexpected. I never thought something like this would be possible." Uruguay striker Diego Forlan

Thomas Muller - Adidas Golden Shoe & Hyundai Best Young Player

We had a genuinely good season at Bayern Munich, and it was also a good one for me personally, because I finished with a lot of goals and assists,” Muller told FIFA.com. “That gave me plenty of confidence, but once I was selected for the senior national team, I was suddenly in new territory again. It's a tremendous feeling when the tournament that rounds off a season goes so well.
Germany striker Thomas Muller

Iker Casillas - Adidas Golden Glove

"It’s a real honour. This is one of those awards that you look for but don’t expect to win."

Spain on top of the world!!

Photo from fifa.com

"Champions of Europe and now champions of the world, Spain captured football's Holy Grail for the first time with a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands thanks to Andres Iniesta's 116th-minute strike at Soccer City."

"The solitary goal came with penalties looming as substitute Cesc Fabregas played in Iniesta and the little midfielder drove emphatically across Maarten Stekelenburg and into the far corner. With this victory – their fourth successive single-goal win in South Africa – Spain became the eighth name on the FIFA World Cup™ Trophy and also the first European team to have triumphed on a different continent. For the Netherlands, who lost defender John Heitinga to a red card in extra time, there is only the heartache of another tale of what might have been after they completed a hat-trick of Final losses."

"Fernando Torres replaced Villa midway through the extra period and Spain gained a man advantage four minutes later with Heitinga's dismissal for pulling back Iniesta on the edge of the box, the offence earning him a second yellow. Iniesta would not be denied, however, and his fine late strike put Spain into the history books and left a Dutch dream shattered."

Paul The Octopus (Spain) vs Mani The Parakeet (Netherlands)

Paul The Octopus (Spain) vs Mani The Parakeet (Netherlands)

Rasa-rasanyer semua dah baca atau tengok berita malam tadi (Jumaat 10-07-2010) kan? hahahaa..lagi berita pasal Paul Si Kurita..tapi kali ni Paul dah ada pesaing...Mani Si Nuri... ^_^
Kenapa aku letak tajuk "Paul The Octopus (Spain) vs Mani The Parakeet (Netherlands)" sebab saingan Paul lawan Mani lebih menarik kot...hahahahaa..

"By KIRSTEN GRIESHABER (AP) :
BERLIN — Eyes around the world were on Germany's octopus oracle Paul on Friday as he made his biggest prediction yet in the World Cup: Spain will beat the Netherlands in the final.Paul's prescient picks in the World Cup — he has yet to predict a match wrong — have propelled him to international fame from obscurity in an aquarium in the western city of Oberhausen.TV stations in Germany, Great Britain, Taiwan and elsewhere broadcast live pictures, complete with breathless commentary, of his final decision.Millions watched as the eight-legged oracle descended upon on a tank marked with a Spanish flag, sitting for only a few minutes before grabbing a mussel and devouring it, while completely ignoring the Dutch tank — indicating a Spanish victory in Sunday's final match in Sunday's final.(more)"

"Mani, a 13-year-old parakeet, picks up a card with the flag of the Netherlands in Singapore's Little India neighborhood, Friday July 9, 2010. Mani's owner, fortune-teller M. Muniyappan, claims the bird accurately predicted the winner of the tournament's four quarterfinal games and Spain's victory in its semifinal match.(others news about Mani)"

Brazil 2014 journey begins

"From the second it starts until its final dramatic moments, each FIFA World Cup™ takes on its own specific identity, a unique image that is projected around the world.

This evening at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, the Official Emblem for the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ was unveiled in the presence of Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, President of the Brazil 2014 Organising Committee and FIFA Executive Committee member Ricardo Teixeira, FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter as well as former Seleção players Cafu, Carlos Alberto Torres, Romario and 1994 FIFA World Cup™ winning coach Carlos Alberto Parreira.

Prior to the emblem unveiling, 500 guests, including international media, were treated to a small taste of what they can expect from the first FIFA World Cup™ in Brazil since 1950. Brazilian music groups Barbatuques and Bossa Cuca Nova and Grammy award-winning singer Vanessa da Mata appeared on stage in an hour-long show hosted by the Brazilian celebrity couple Fernanda Lima and Rodrigo Hilbert.

FIFA and the Brazil LOC invited 25 Brazilian-based agencies to submit designs for the Official Emblem of the 2014 tournament and the task of picking the winner was awarded to a high-profile seven-strong judging panel. The panel was made up of one of the most influential figures in Brazilian architecture Oscar Niemeyer, designer Hans Donner, supermodel Gisele Bundchen, author Paulo Coelho, singer Ivete Sangalo as well as Ricardo Teixeira and FIFA Secretary General Jérôme Valcke.

The winning design was “Inspiration”, created by Brazilian agency Africa. The design stems from an iconic photograph of three victorious hands together raising the world’s most famous trophy. As well as depicting the humanitarian notion of hands interlinking, the portrayal of the hands is also symbolic of the yellow and green of Brazil warmly welcoming the world to their country.

The next major milestone on the road to the 2014 FIFA World Cup™ will be the preliminary draw to be conducted in Brazil in July 2011."

Germany's 'Octopus oracle' keeps perfect record

"It will not come as much of a consolation to heartbroken German fans, but at least Paul, Germany's now world-famous "Octopus oracle", has maintained his perfect record.

The "psychic" creature has correctly predicted all six of Germany's FIFA World Cup™ games and, amid excruciating drama broadcast live on national television on Tuesday, plumped for Spain, causing anguish up and down the country. And the eight-legged soccer soothsayer was spot on Wednesday, as Carles Puyol's semi-final header shattered Germany's dreams of winning their fourth world crown.

Two plastic boxes, one with a German flag and one with a Spanish, were lowered into Paul's tank at an aquarium in western Germany, each with a tasty morsel of food inside. The box which Paul opens first is adjudged to be his predicted winner. But with classic fickleness, German fans turned against their beloved octopus after he forecast a Spanish win.

According to 'Der Western' daily paper, there have been "a host of comments on Facebook, Twitter... suggesting Paul should be fried, barbecued or turned into a seafood salad or paella". "Others wanted to throw him into the shark tank," the paper reported on its website. And on Berlin's fan mile, some sections of the crowd also turned against their former hero. Anti-octopus songs were sung."

Paul Si Sotong Kurita meramalkan Spain memenangi semi final nanti!!

Berita dari luar negara :

World Cup 2010: Paul The Octopus predicts Spain victory over Germany

"According to an Associated Press report, the eight-legged football oracle known as Paul has predicted that Spain will defeat Germany in tomorrow's World Cup semi-final.

After carefully mulling his decision, Oberhausen's famous prophet chose to consume a mussel from a glass tank with a Spanish flag rather than one from a similar tank marked with a German flag.

Paul's decision may at first be devastating for Germany fans; the octopus has successfully predicted each of his country's results at the 2010 World Cup, and in his life, has been correct 80% of the time.

However, there remains hope for die Mannschaft: Paul once before made a mistake in predicting a Germany-Spain clash. At Euro 2008, the vizier chose Germany to beat Spain in the final, but in that competition, Spain prevailed."

The Dutch beat five-time world champions Brazil 2-1

"As for the Brazilians, Felipe Melo would be delighted to erase the memory of a horror second half. After missing the Round of 16 tie with suspension, the 27-year-old returned to the starting line-up and laid on Robinho's tenth-minute opener with a slide-rule pass. But with his side in command, he unluckily put through his own goal on 53 minutes to spark a Dutch renaissance. Then, just five minutes after Wesley Sneijder had handed the Oranje a 68th-minute lead, Melo was shown a red card for kicking out at Arjen Robben. A Seleção were headed for the exit, and must now wait four long years before launching their quest for a sixth triumph on home soil."

Quote of the day
"We've not come here to settle for the semi-finals. Of course what we're experiencing now is fantastic because we've beaten one of the favourites, but the tournament starts for real from now on," Arjen Robben, Netherlands winger.
